"I would need to write a book on the significant contributions you have made over the past 30 years in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities. You physically, emotionally, intellectually, and mentally spearheaded many initiatives that have borne great fruits in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities. From the time you were on the front lines of the disability movement to working in government, you took the lead in this endeavour. For you, it was never just a job, but it was sheer passion and a mission, which you led with excellence without complaining (except when there was no productivity, progress or development in the space)—your tenacity to get things done resulting in many projects of the sector being successful. You always avail yourself to supporting persons with disabilities and addressing issues of disability. Your extraordinary zest for life and the energy that you have has enabled you to venture into spaces where few survive. You have never lost this passion and commitment over the many years that I have known you. Without your committed involvement in the development of the INDS and the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, South Africa would not have a White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities."

"During the 2018 Roundtable on the Rights of Persons with Albinism, I appreciated how Lidia would mediate and distil concrete ways forward to translate into institutionalised solutions for persons with albinism. She has actively advocated for disability, feminism and anti-racism. Her advocacy links itself to cultural and legislative reform. She's been an enduring and incredible ally and a proponent for equity and social justice. She is always intentionally available, willing to provide guidance or assistance and an active problem solver. She prioritises the most structurally oppressed groups. She excels in perspective-taking and distributes information to provide the recipients with tools to work within their own activism. She offers support, solidarity and consideration. It's rare to find a person who invests in all these traits. My most significant experience personally was how much I learnt about disability politics from her. It has helped me frame my language more intentionally and to appreciate the advice and the thought processes of several activists. It's also helped me deepen my understanding of intersectional politics and multi-layered approaches to solving a problem."

Not only did I find that she had an incredible depth of knowledge regarding the disability rights movement, but I also found that she was fiercely passionate about her work. "I believe the most significant contribution Lidia has made over the past 30 years in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities has been building systems for coordination, implementation and accountability. Her willingness to assist at all times assisted greatly in achieving progress. In the fifth administration of government in 2016, the Office on the Status of Persons with Disabilities in the Northern Cape requested her to assist us in building capacity at the provincial Cabinet level on the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. She came and did that very diligently, resulting in us getting the political support and championing we needed to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities. I would like to see Lidia broaden what she is currently doing to other provinces through training and coaching other like-minded individuals."
